Tell us about your campaign.

My name is Wayne Irvin. I’m an attorney and CPA by training and experience. I also teach business law at MTSU. In my career, I’ve done a lot of tax work, mergers & acquisitions, financings, and business transactions. I came to Middle Tennessee when I met the love of my life, Patricia. Since then I’ve learned that I was just coming home -- my family originally came here not long after the American Revolution. Having family that has been here that long, I feel my roots run deep in Rutherford County. In 2014, I turned towards public service when I accepted an opportunity to work with the Tennessee Attorney General in Nashville – as a part of that work, I was the lead attorney on public utility rate cases that saved millions of dollars for Tennessee utility ratepayers. Then, a few years ago, I started my law practice here in Murfreesboro, helping individuals and families and businesses navigate tax, transactions, estate planning, and other matters. And more recently, as part of my efforts to help the next generation, I started teaching at MTSU. I was elected to the Rutherford County Commission in 2022.

What are your priorities for this office?

Balanced budgets with no tax increase, no expansion of Middle Point Landfill, and continuing to support law enforcement would be three significant goals.

Describe your qualifications for this office.

Public service and volunteering have been a part of my entire life – I have volunteered at church and community projects and have worked on political campaigns since I was a student at Abilene Christian University. While I majored in accounting, I spent my summers in college working in the legislative and executive branches of the federal government in Washington, D.C. Since then, I’ve continued to serve others through my career in law, by volunteering and contributing to many charitable organizations and political campaigns, and through my teaching at MTSU. Continuing as the Commissioner for District 14 would be a way to continue to serve.
