Tell us about your campaign.
We are in challenging times in our country, and we need leaders who truly represent the people—not special interests. I’m running for office because I believe our community deserves a voice that listens, acts, and stands for every resident of District 19 and the county. I will ensure our commission works for the interests of all the people, not just a select few. I’m committed to protecting our democracy from the grassroots up and building a community our children and grandchildren can be proud of. I have been a resident of Middle Tennessee since 1997, and Rutherford County since 2016. This is home. I love the people, I value our country culture that seems to be slipping away. I believe we should leave our community and the land better than when we found it. That seems to be a big idea for some reason. I promise to dig deep into every issue, cut through the noise, and deliver real solutions that improve lives right here in Rutherford County. Together, we can create the strong, fair, and thriving community we all deserve.
In your own words, describe the responsibilities of the office you are seeking.
The county’s main responsibilities are to make decisions about land use, county laws, policies, budget approvals and taxes that affect residents. The commission also has oversight on the operation of county departments, committee appointments. They do so in representation of their districts.
What are your priorities for this office?
When elected I will work to make sure infrastructure is in place for development. Every problem we have is because of dense growth where we don’t have infrastructure. Plan Rutherford is how we do that. Infrastructure is roads, but it’s also schools, water and landfill capacity. I want transparency in government. I spend a lot of time understanding how the commission governs the county, and frankly it is difficult to understand, or there’s a side that isn’t easy to see. Even commissioners I have met get blindsided on various topics. We have committees that record their meetings on cassette tape, and to find out what happened you have to go in person and listen! Our citizens should always have a clear understanding of what is going on.
Describe your qualifications for this office.
I have no special interest other than simply making sure this stays a great place to live. I have spent nearly a 30 year career working for a very large healthcare company in Nashville, leading diverse teams on complex large Information Technology projects. But I am not career building - I am approaching retirement and I am only interested in service. I have been a Big Brother with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tennessee twice over the last 20+ years. I am very interested in the success of young people, including my 30 year old stepson that just bought his first home. I founded Bike Walk Tennessee in 2008, a nonprofit dedicated to liveable bikeable walkable communities. I am planning “porch rocking” events on my front porch. I have a lot more to share. Come meet me here, have a conversation. Invite me to your event in the district. I will prove my authenticity.
