Tell us about your campaign.
I’ve been engaged in politics my entire life—from student government to voter education and registration, to serving as a poll watcher and campaign volunteer. As a committed citizen, I grew tired of seeing local races go unopposed and elections decided without real choice. Too many voices—especially Democratic voices—were missing in Rutherford County, and I knew that had to change. I ran for County Commissioner to give citizens, not big business, a voice—and I kept that promise. Citizens feel heard on the Commission floor. My record reflects leadership and empathy.I have worked to make decisions that reflect the will of the citizens they impact. I am a passionate public servant and proven leader poised to stand for all communities. I’m running for re-election to keep moving our county forward. With your support, we can ensure that Rutherford County is a place where citizens can live, work, and play peacefully.
In your own words, describe the responsibilities of the office you are seeking.
The County Commission serves as the governing body at the county level. Duties include overseeing budget and finance; public works and infrastructure; public health and safety; public education funding; zoning and land use; and county board appointments. The County Commission impacts citizens daily lives more than the president. Probably the most important duty of the County Commission is setting the property tax and the allocation of those funds to support county operations.
What are your priorities for this office?
My priorities during my first term were government transparency, accountability, and support for increased salaries for education and public safety professionals. I plan to continue this advocacy to ensure citizens are informed about how their government works and how their tax dollars are being allocated.
Describe your qualifications for this office.
My experience as an educator and healthcare professional make me uniquely qualified as a county commissioner by blending frontline community insight, fiscal responsibility, and a deep understanding of human services. This translates to my work in county governance in several areas such as community needs assessment in the areas of public health and education; management of limited resources and the ability to navigate county access to external funding resources such as state and federal grants. Additionally, educators and healthcare workers have the ability to work within bureaucracies.
