I am running for Rutherford County Commissioner, District 18 because the time has come for me to step forward and make a proactive, positive difference in my community. My focus is serving people over party. I will be running as an Independent Candidate. The time has come for politicians to put aside political partisanship and focus on the needs of the people who elected them to their position. Too many elected officials are concerned with power, position, prestige, pleasure and popularity. I am concerned about the people. “Politics is not about the position you occupy; it is about the people you serve. Let’s work together to continue to build a strong, effective county government that works for everyone. I would be humbled and honored to serve as your Rutherford County Commissioner for District 18.
In your own words, describe the responsibilities of the office you are seeking.
County Commissioners have fiscal and legislative oversight of county government which includes; passing ordinances, forming policies, setting tax rates, and formulating the yearly fiscal budget. As County Commissioners fulfill their responsibilities to the taxpayers, they are to lead with integrity, accountability and professionalism.
What are your priorities for this office?
First, I would like the County Commissioners to work together as a non-partisan legislative body and focus on the needs of the people and not partisan politics. Second, I would like more collaboration between city government and county government. We do not live in silos. We are neighbors; therefore, I would like to see the Commissioners work together to build a strong, effective county government that works for everyone.
