I am running as an Independent. I am a registered Republican but I didn't have enough of a voting history to run on the Republican ticket. At one time I felt my one vote wouldn't make a difference. I know now that was very wrong. Teachers is Rutherford County are not big voters. I hope to change that. I have worked as an Educator in Rutherford County for 31 years. I have served in numerous positions. I have been a classroom teacher, a Title I Intervention teacher, the first Atlas(Homeless) Liaison, HR Supervisor, and finally a Principal at Rockvale Elementary for 12 years. After 31 years it is time for me to retire but not walk away completely. I think I still have a lot to offer.

In your own words, describe the responsibilities of the office you are seeking.

It is my understanding the School Board has 3 main responsibilities. First, to oversee and approve the budget. Second, to approve policies and procedures. Lastly, to hire and oversee the Director of Schools. The only employee the School Board is over is the Director of Schools.

What are your priorities for this office?

I believe our School Board has done a wonderful job of providing a voice and ear for parents. I also believe the existing board is very respectful to our communities. I would like to assist in providing a voice for our educators. Our teachers, staff, and principals have a lot to offer to our decisions. I would also like to increase the appreciation we shower on our educators. I believe in keeping our students and staff safe. Everyone should be adequately trained. Training should happen more than once a year. Students cannot learn and teachers cannot teach if they do not feel safe. Lastly, I believe our School Board should model professionalism. I have always approached situations with kindness. Our students should know of our school board and be proud of our representation.

Describe your qualifications for this office.

I am a mother and grandmother first. I believe in the strength of Family. I have been an educator for 31 years. I understand children and the obstacles they face. I support schools and families working together.
