Tell us about your campaign.
I am Bryan Terry, MD, FASA, a husband to my wife, Cheryl, father to our children, Brayden and Breeley, local physician, small business owner, and conservative Republican. I have proudly represented District 48 in the Tennessee House of Representatives since first being elected in 2014, where I currently serve as Chairman of the House Health Committee. I was raised with deep blue-collar roots through three generations of our family's auto salvage business, where I learned the values of hard work, faith, and personal responsibility. My background includes our family farm, our auto insurance pool, service as an Affiliated Associate Professor with the University of Tennessee Graduate Medical Education program, and a career caring for patients as a physician. As a medical intern, I helped care for victims of the Oklahoma City bombing, and in 2013, our family experienced the devastation of an EF-5 tornado that struck our farm. I am also a proud tribal member of the Choctaw Nation, and my family attends World Outreach Church. My campaign is centered on providing principled, conservative leadership while protecting and promoting the shared values that make Rutherford County and Tennessee a great place to live, work, and raise a family. Those values include faith, family, freedom, fiscal responsibility, public safety, opportunity, and respect for the Constitution. I first ran for office because I wanted to make Tennessee better for future generations, and that mission remains unchanged. Over the past twelve years, I have worked to earn the trust of the people of District 48 by being accessible, listening to constituents, and delivering results. As Chairman of the House Health Committee, I have worked to strengthen healthcare, support patients and providers, protect the sanctity of life, expand medical education, and encourage innovation. I have also supported legislation that promotes economic growth, protects constitutional rights, improves education, and keeps Tennessee one of the nation's best-managed states. Locally, I have made addressing the challenges surrounding Middle Point Landfill one of my highest priorities. I have participated in odor patrols, worked with local officials and community leaders, sought greater oversight and accountability, and passed legislation that helped stop the proposed northern expansion. While the landfill remains a difficult issue because of agreements made decades ago, I remain committed to opposing any expansion and protecting our community. District 48 is one of Tennessee's most diverse districts, and my varied background has prepared me to understand its challenges and represent its people effectively. I remain committed to providing conservative leadership, responsive constituent service, and responsible governance. It would be an honor to continue serving our community.
In your own words, describe the responsibilities of the office you are seeking.
The responsibilities of a state representative can be summarized in three fundamental duties: uphold the Constitution, pass a balanced budget, and serve the people of the district. First, every law we consider must be measured against the United States and Tennessee Constitutions. Protecting our constitutional rights and liberties while ensuring government remains limited and accountable is our foremost responsibility. Second, the General Assembly is constitutionally required to pass a balanced budget. Tennessee's strong fiscal position is the result of responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars and making prudent investments without burdening future generations. Finally, a state representative serves as an advocate for constituents by listening to their concerns, helping them navigate state government, and working with local leaders to solve problems that affect our communities. These three responsibilities guide every vote I cast and every decision I make as I work to protect the freedoms, financial future, and quality of life of the people of District 48.
What are your priorities for this office?
My highest priority is continuing to protect and promote the shared values of the people of District 48 while improving their quality of life. Locally, one of my top priorities remains addressing the ongoing challenges associated with Middle Point Landfill. Although state law limits what can be done because of agreements entered into decades ago, I will continue pursuing practical legislative solutions that increase accountability, protect neighboring property owners, and safeguard our community. As Chairman of the House Health Committee, I will continue working to strengthen Tennessee's healthcare system by supporting patients, healthcare professionals, medical education, rural healthcare, and responsible innovation while protecting the sanctity of life. I also remain committed to maintaining Tennessee's strong fiscal position, supporting law enforcement and first responders, protecting constitutional rights, encouraging job creation, improving educational opportunities, and ensuring state government remains efficient, transparent, and accountable. Above all, I want to continue being a representative who is accessible, responsive, and willing to work with anyone who shares the goal of making our community and state better for future generations.
Describe your qualifications for this office.
I believe my qualifications come from both my professional experience and my record of public service. I am a board-certified physician, small business owner, husband, father, and have proudly represented District 48 since 2014. I currently serve as Chairman of the House Health Committee, where I have helped lead discussions on some of Tennessee's most significant healthcare issues and legislation. My professional background requires evaluating complex information, making difficult decisions under pressure, and always putting the well-being of others first. Those same skills have served me well as a legislator. Throughout my time in office, I have worked to build relationships, solve problems, and pass meaningful legislation while remaining accessible and accountable to my constituents. Growing up in a family auto salvage business, working on our family farm, teaching future physicians as an affiliated associate professor with the University of Tennessee Graduate Medical Education program, and practicing medicine have given me a broad perspective on the challenges facing Tennessee families and businesses. Most importantly, I have demonstrated a consistent commitment to servant leadership, conservative principles, and delivering results. I believe experience matters, but character matters even more. I will continue serving with integrity, humility, and a genuine desire to leave Tennessee stronger for future generations.
