House of Representatives - 4th District

Timothy Lanier
Timothy Lanier
Democrat
Tell us about your campaign.
I'm Tim Lanier, and I'm running to represent Tennessee's 4th District because Washington has forgotten what it's like to build something with your own hands. My campaign is built around the number 4: we're the 4th district, I'm 4th on your ballot, and my platform rests on four things I'll fight for in Washington — more affordable housing, voting rights, women's rights, and standing up to authoritarians. I'm a carpenter turned contractor turned Common Sense Democrat. I started and operated Carpenters Trusst LLC, so I know what it means to meet a payroll, follow through on promises, and build something that lasts. For too long, we've watched construction jobs and know-how leave this state while housing costs climb. I want to bring that work home — building smarter, training our own people, and putting Tennesseans back to work building Tennessee. That's the thinking behind the Big Beautiful Building Bill — legislation that creates a Federal Construction Commission, invests in community-centered design, builds real workforce development including a Women Build America pipeline. It opens a clear pathway for tradespeople to become licensed general contractors. We can pay for it by cutting Pentagon waste and redundancy, not by raising your taxes. Our voting rights are under attack, plain and simple. I will do everything I can to make sure we have fair and balanced elections and districts — not just here, but throughout this country. No one's vote should count for less because of where the lines got drawn. I'll fight for women's freedom to make their own decisions about their own bodies and their own futures, without government standing in the way. And I'll stand up to authoritarians, wherever they show up — whether that's someone trying to grab more power than our Constitution allows here at home, or aggression abroad, like Russia's, that our allies are counting on America to help deter. I'm going to lead with honesty and transparency, every single day, and let my record speak for itself. I'm not running to be a career politician. I'm running to be a servant — someone who shows up, listens to his neighbors, and does the work. This district deserves a representative who's built things, fixed things, and shown up for people long before an election ever mattered. That's who I've been my whole life, and that's who I'll be in Congress. Please vote for Tim Lanier, 4th on the ballot 4 the people. I will make tomorrow a little better than today. Love y'all. — Tim.
In your own words, describe the responsibilities of the office you are seeking.
Being one of the 535 members of Congress would be a great honor to me. The work we're supposed to accomplish is important for the people. In the House, our main job is to pass the budget. This horse jockeying of a process requires good interpersonal skills and developing relationships with other Reps to actually get something your district needs into the budget. We also try to pass laws to benefit the country as a whole, although this process has become difficult. In the House we can file impeachment charges against Federal Judges, the President and Vice, and other officials. The main responsibility of a Congressman is to listen to your district and fight with all your might to get their needs into the budget. That's what I'll do.
What are your priorities for this office?
The 750,000 Tennesseans of District 4. Their well being is my top priority, regardless of party affiliation, religion, or ethnicity. I will make tomorrow a little better than today
Describe your qualifications for this office.
Upbringing: Rural Western KY on a farm surrounded by family and the church. Educated at the University of Kentucky and I began work in construction at the age of 14. I have a good mix of traditional and real world education. Family: My wife Jennifer had 2 young daughters when I came into the picture and we quickly became a close family. We have gotten the girls through the public education system, they've graduated from the University of Tennessee and now they have real jobs. One is a teacher and the other is in marketing. I'm close with Jenn's extended family and my folks back home. I believe the REAL work in this life starts at home. Career: After college I worked a ""real"" job for about 6 months before returning to my original love, carpentry. Specifically building residential houses. After a few more years in the industry I founded Carpenters Trusst LLC in Nashville. We were successful for many years and I employed up to 25 talented folks at a time. As I've aged I prepared myself and my ego for political office and I'm prepared to be your next representative to Congress. Thank you Rutherford County for being a good example to the smaller counties, keep up the good work! -Tim
